IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan Marie
Knight
June 27, 1953 – September 17, 2019
Joan Marie Knight, 66, Sturgis, peacefully passed on September 17, 2019, while being cared for by the amazing men and women of Hospice House in Rapid City, SD. We are ever so grateful.
She was born to Joe and Bonnie Chambers in Loma Linda, CA, and was raised in Bloomington, CA. She married young and had two daughters. She spent most of her early life as a military housewife and raising her children. She returned to California and began her career as a caregiver. Up until the day she couldn't, she was a certified nurse's aide in Sturgis, SD.
In her younger years, she enjoyed live theater and was able to meet some significant actors at that time. She was also involved in the ushers and usherettes and was involved in making homecoming floats with her sister's help.
Joan was very active in her church group that she often attended with her cousin, Linda. Joan always had a love of reading and spent a lot of time visiting with her sisters on the best books, movies and shows. As the eldest sister she also had a hand in helping to raise her three younger sisters.
Joan is met by her parents, Joe and Bonnie Chambers; her beloved aunt, Lena; and brother-in-law, David Debonnet.
Her daughters were everything to her. When grandchildren came into her life, she had never been happier. She left behind a wonderful legacy. She found peace in her family.
She leaves behind her youngest daughter, Stacey Knight, 43, and grandson, Zacharie Harris, 13, both of Sturgis, SD, where her constant companions and her care givers; and her eldest daughter, Jennifer Knight, 44, fiancé, James Hammon, 35, grandson, Jeridan Knight-Kile, 20, granddaughter, Dakota Hammon, 9, grandson, Devon Hammon, 6, and grandson, Drew Hammon, 4.
She was loved by 3 sisters and their families, Cynthia and Dennis Mattiuzzi, Yosemite, CA, Deanna and Thomas Wursten, Fresno, CA, and Jeannette DeBonnet, Buffalo, WY. She also had an exceptionally close bond with her sisters-in-law, Myra Marten and Carrie Kruck, Bloomington, CA. Nieces and nephews that she gained through her marriage were significant to her.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 23, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Sturgis with Rev. Paul Henschen officiating.
