Obituary

Paul Gene Mayer, 60, Sturgis, died Thursday, December 9, 2010, at his residence.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Fr. Arnold Kari officiating.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 17, 2010, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, south of Richardton, ND, with Fr. Boniface Muggli officiating. Graveside Services will be St. Stephen's Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

Paul was born September 14, 1950, at Mott, ND, to Joseph and Marie (Kelsch) Mayer. He graduated from Mott Lincoln High School and a graduate of National College of Business at Rapid City. Paul joined the ND Army National Guard and was a member for seven years.

Paul married Dianne Miller at Mott, ND, on November 4, 1972.

Paul managed the Remsing Lumber Yard in Mott and later worked for Great Plains Lumber in Mandan, ND, and Lemmon, SD.

He moved to Sturgis and worked for Guardian Building Center in Rapid City. At the time of his death, he was working for Cor Bon in Sturgis. Paul was an avid reader, superior card player and enjoyed golfing.

Survivors include his son, Derek (Kari) Mayer, Mott, ND; mother, Marie Mayer, Mott, ND; brothers, Dan (Donna) Mayer, Sturgis, Joe (Glee) Mayer, Minot, ND, and Roger Mayer, Fargo, ND; sisters, Lee (Pete) Granaas, Tucson, AZ, Marie (Sam) Sampson, Weymouth, MA, Becky (Lester) Herner, Fargo, ND, Pat Mayer (Larry Schmidt), Mandan, ND, and Jolene (Marv) Schultz, Edgely, ND; and 3 grandchildren, Andrea, Erick and Shaunie.

He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Sr.

A memorial has been established for an educational fund for his grandchildren.
