Grubl
September 4, 1929 – May 7, 2022

He grew up in Bear Butte Valley near Spring Creek. He attended 1 st -8 th grade at the rural Bear Butte grade school. In 1944, the family moved to the ranch on Alkali. Ramon attended high school at St. Martin's in Sturgis, graduating in 1948. Ramon had fond memories of his classmates, playing football, and taking the nuns in the Model A he drove to school downtown for errands.
After graduation Ramon farmed and ranched with his dad and brothers on Alkali. He married Belva Borup in November 1954 and to this union four children were born. Debra (Chuck) Fuhrer, Ord, NE, Ronald (Susan) Grubl, Sturgis, SD, Dean (Christine) Grubl, Palm Springs, CA, and Daniel (Beth) Grubl, Sturgis, SD. Belva and Ramon built a home on the ranch and kept busy raising kids, farming, and ranching.
Ramon's hobby was farming and ranching. He loved working with his dad and brothers, then with his sons. He enjoyed the Spring of the year after the cattle went to pasture when he could spend early mornings checking cows. While continuing to work at home he also had jobs off the ranch during the dry years, as security at the Titan Military Base, and maintaining the private telephone lines on Alkali Road.
Ramon was an active member at the Bear Butte Valley Catholic Church and the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, where he served on parish council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was even known to show up during the church bazaar to wash dishes well into his 80's, Ramon also served on the Meade County FSA board for several years.
Ramon will always be remembered for his smile and a "quick laugh". He was a gentle kind person.
